Lifelock Settles With FTC For Deceptive Ads – Pays $12m Fine
The fines will be reimbursed to about one million customers who signed up for the service starting in 2005. But if one takes the $12m fine divided by one million customers, that amounts to $12 each. The year 2009 is proving to be an eye opener for everyone in America, since there were few days that went by it which we didn’t learn about all of the crooks running corporate America. The company Lifelock which promises in their TV commercials to protect the consumer against ID theft and promises to pay you any damages that they occur if your ID is stolen, has been stealing themselves.

How Nintendo Delights Its Customers
In 2005, when the latest generation of consoles was first announced, many assumed Sony's Playstation 3, which had the boldest specs, would prevail, following on the monster success of the Playstation 2.
This connects back to an earlier post , where I wrote about how Southwest Airlines' ability to deliver a superior experience at a lower price demonstrates that customer experience is not something you buy, but a mindset you adopt. Since the video game console industry began with the Atari 2600, every successive generation has been touted for its better graphics, faster processors, and increasingly complex controls.

Customer and Product Strategies from an Indie Rocker
In August 2005, Jonathan Coulton quit his job as a software developer, with the goal of conducting an experiment: over the next year, could he figure out a way to earn a living as a full-time musician, leveraging the Web and his small-but-passionate fan base?
Many of their strategies would be equally effective for businesses trying to generate buzz and attract loyal customers - without an enormous marketing budget.
Coulton isn't the only artist who is trying to come up with new ways of cultivating an audience and making a living in a post-label, post-studio, post-publisher world, where big advances and development deals are essentially a thing of the past for emerging talent.

The Power of Reflected Glory Marketing
Unless your customers care so passionately about your brand or product that they pay for the privilege of wearing your logo, they probably don't care enough to be part of an online conversation about your brand. If you're anybody other than Apple, Nike or Coke, you're probably going to need some other basis for convening a conversation that connects you to your customers.
I love Glad Press'n Seal - a kind of futuristic plastic wrap that actually keeps your food sealed in its bowl, even when you accidentally knock it off the fridge shelf. It's like someone finally invented Saran

Google's Privacy Breach: Lessons for Companies
Online systems make it easy for companies to track and store customer data in ways users didn't expect and don't approve, and this often is too tempting a target for companies to resist. And in 2005, Sony was caught tracking the music played by Sony's CD-buying customers, using a "rootkit" to cover its tracks. But customer goodwill can quickly disappear online; I know I won't be Late Monday, January 25, I posted results of my recent testing of Google Toolbar. In videos and screenshots, I showed that Google Toolbar was continuing to collect users' browsing history

SnapNames: Apologies Shouldn’t Be Conditional, Especially When You Steal From Customers
The company made the right early moves by admitting the problem and promising refunds, plus interest, to customers. Now, though, they are forcing customers to release them from liability to get the refund. Since 2005 a substantial number of domain auctions had shill bidding by a SnapNames employee.
Earlier this week the domain name industry was rocked by a shill bidding scandal at SnapNames . We think this this is a mistake.

Net Metering
The idea is 'Net Metering', which is in short the concept of customers producing their own power and contributing to the provincial power grid. So I wrte to NB Power asking for details on the program and this morning the reply came back, which I pass on here: Policy A customer may connect a generation unit that uses renewable fuels and has a nameplate rating of up to 100 kW to the NB Power Distribution - Customer Service (Disco) grid. It is a little bit under the radar - there was a mention on the radio last week and this morning I saw a short article in the local newspaper.

New Technology Supporting Informal Learning
Squire, 2005) What most characterizes games and simulations is that they are not merely forms of instruction, they are environments, into which students must immerse themselves in order to participate. (Foreman, Aldrich, 2005) It is this feature, and not simply the action and the graphics, that motivates learners and draws them in. Ng & Wiemer-Hastings, 2005) That Abstract We often talk about games, simulations and other events in learning, but these technologies support only episodic learning. Equally important are those technologies that provide a context for these learning

The Future of Online Learning: Ten Years On
We see a large number of customers spending less than 30 percent of their IT budget on business priorities, and growth initiatives, and 70 percent or more on management and maintenance. Breeding, 2005) They will be able to be in constant audio and video contact with family and friends, meaning that families and groups will never really be separated unless one of them chooses to be. TechTarget, An MS-Word version of this essay is available at [link] In the summer of 1998, over two frantic weeks in July, I wrote an essay titled The Future of Online Learning. (Downes, Downes,
