Why Wikipedia Should Be Trusted As A Breaking News Source
Most any journalism professor, upon mention of Wikipedia , will immediately launch into a rant about how the massively collaborative online encyclopedia can't be trusted. The media collaborated with itself and it was one big swirling newsroom on Twitter," said Guzman. "We The Seattle Times, she said, had more than 500 people collaborating on Google Wave to gather information on the same story.
It can, you see, be edited and altered by absolutely anyone at any moment. But how much less trustworthy is the site for breaking news than the plethora of blogs and other online

Intel, AOL, Others Help Betaworks Round Up $20M
Having previously raised $8 million in 2008, the company has put their money to good use; Betaworks' history includes helping start companies like Bit.ly and Chartbeat , while investing in other real-time Web apps like Tweetdeck , and helping in the sale of others like Summize, which was acquired by Twitter in 2008.
As with the recent $750 million raised by Battery Ventures , the large collaborative investment in Betaworks is another solid indicator of returning venture capital dollars after a lackluster 2009.
As we profiled in our Never Mind the Valley series last month, New York is increasing its stronghold on the east coast startup scene.

Collaboration Tools
As I mentioned in Real-Time Collaborative Editing , I had a fantastic experience participating in group editing of a Mind Map of collaborative tools during a session at Learn Trends. I would expect the document to continue to grow and change, but thought it would be worth having it available in a text format as well (so I can find it when I need it). In this way, 2008 will continue to be a fascinating year as we see what history's largest ever business laboratory and incubator will turn out for us. Here's my take on what we will see happen in 2008 in the Web 2.0 Predictions for 2008 Open APIs finally go beyond free as successful business models emerge. Despite riding several waves of hype, it's now clear that the social networking space will only get hotter in 2008 according to most watchers. 2008 2009
It's always interesting to look back at the past year - 2008, think about what has changed for me during the year, and think about what that means for the next year - 2009. My blog is really the hub of my thinking and activity, so by going back through posts for the 2008, it gives me a pretty good perspective on what's been happening inside my head during 2008. To do my review, I first looked for Learning Professionals Ten Predictions for eLearning 2008 Test SCORM Courses with an LMS Request for Proposal (RFP) Samples Training Method Trends Corporate Learning Long Tail and Attention Crisis SCORM Test Web 2.0

Real-Time Collaborative Editing
A while ago I asked in several places if people knew of a text or document editor that would allow real-time collaborative editing during a conference session (or workshop, seminar, course, etc.). While I'm on the subject of real-time collaborative editing, I just had a fantastic experience via Robin Good where he used MindMeister to allow participants to collectively edit a Mind Map during a session at the Learning Trends . This mind map started with just the first level nodes that represented the categories. My main requirements were: Easy to use Easy to distribute (give everyone a URL) No download required Support chat and document editing At the time, I didn't get very good responses.
