Friday’s Finds #27
Jay Cross (@jaycross): “Hallmark of Future Work. Since the beginning of 2008, 24 employees at the company have committed suicide and an additional 13 have attempted suicide. As part of my – sense-making, moving from tacit to explicit, sharing with others – PKM system, here’s what caught my attention via Twitter during the past week. This week, I’m going to focus more on what others found interesting, as there was a lot of traffic as a result of the LearnTrends conference.

It's the end of 2008, and while most people are predicting what will happen in 2009 , I look back at those who predicted 2008 . As for e-learning, 2008 was a year in which very little actually occurred(even in gaming, the headline reads Old Standby Back On Top ). Ultimately, time is one of our most valuable resources, and I am hopeful that in 2008 it will be easier to learn, as well as to create and locate high-quality learning It is safe to say that most pundits did not predict the largest story of the year, the collapse of the economic system . And while most

Learning for the 21st Century
Jay Cross exposes the inadequacies of traditional learning and discusses a new paradigm for learning in the 21st Century.
the days of textile factories in Manchester, railroads criss-crossing continents, and assembly lines mass- producing automobiles, most work was physical. Jay Cross is a strategist, speaker, consultant, and designer of corporate learning and performance systems. Unprecedented changes in the role of the worker, the nature of business, the pace of innovation, the importance of intangibles, the explosion of information, and the shift from a manufacturing to a service economy have rendered traditional corporate learning obsolete.

Last Year's eLearn Magazine Predictions
Everybody is busily predicting 2008, but who is checking 2007's predictions? The IMS Common Cartridge and upcoming Enterprise V2 standards will significantly improve content and learning system interoperability, respectively, although we won't see the full benefits of these developments until 2008. Perhaps they'll open it up in 2008. 2007 is finally over. I am.

Leading Learning and New Skills
In a flattened learning system there are fewer experts and more fellow learners on paths that may cross. Stephen Lahanas - Welcome to The Revolution We are indeed at a cross-roads in our perception of what learning can or should be be. Jay Cross - No, no, no, no. This month on the Learning Circuits Blog - I asked some very leading questions If we have responsibility for informal learning, social learning, eLearning 2.0 , long tail learning , etc. then ...

The Reality of Virtual Learning
Presented to the Defense Learning Academy, Cornwall, Ontario, January 30, 2008. Another example of this learning is what Jay Cross calls workflow learning or informal learning. The only thing I’ll say about JSON right now for those of you who worked on SCORM and sharable objects and faced the cross domain scripting problem, JSON solves the cross domain scripting problems. The slides and audio of this presentation are available here . There’s always a danger when you come in and you do a talk like this: the idea that you’re presenting something, it’s the facts, the truth this is the way it is, I’m going to lay it out on the line, I’m the expert, the guru, you’re the mob, etc.
