Do Open Protocols Bring Storage Costs Down?
API
Yoshida said that his company decided to fully embrace the protocol level integration with the surrounding systems, instead of only releasing only APIs, as a means to allow more competition - and cooperation in the ecosystem through technology rather than selective partnerships.
HDS is a company that plays on both sides of the storage spectrum (management layer and disk) and it's partnerships include relationships with HP (as OEM) and companies like Cisco and Brocade as go-to-market partners. The move to virturalization leaves stone is being left unturned. It

Meebo Eyes A New Market For Its Chat Bar: Online Retailers
For example, if I was browsing Best Buy online and ran a search for “printer”, HP could run an ad pointing to their newest model (note: this is hypothetical, Best Buy isn’t a partner site). Meebo is also planning to release a real-time notifications API in the near future, which will let these retailers send out promotions to users as they’re browsing their sites.
We’ve been covering the growth of Meebo’s chat bar extensively since its launch: after a fairly slow ramp up in 2008 , it’s since been deployed to 130 partner sites and now has a reach of 100 million unique visitors.

HP Launches Web Based Printer - No Computer Need Apply
HP is introducing a printer that connects to the Internet, has a touch screen, and needs no computer to function. HP states that the printer will be called the HP Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web. Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of printing and imaging at HP, said using the printer to print out coupons from Coupons.com could save users enough money to offset the cost of the printer itself. This is different. According to one article, the device is meant to print out stuff from the likes of Google such as documents, maps and so forth.

If you’re interested in further detail and statistical analysis, you can buy the full Year In Review or use the CrunchBase API to retrieve and parse the data yourself.
CrunchBase recorded 7 transactions of $1B or more: HP’s acquisition of EDS ($13.9B), Google’s acq. One of the best decisions we ever made at TechCrunch was when we launched CrunchBase , our open startup directory, at the end of 2007. We aspired to make it the best current source of information about technology startups, people and investors.

A social layer for DSpace?
Could the API be used to support an interface that employs such new media features as tagging, ranking, annotation and discussion? I’ve done some searching, and so far have found nothing like what we are talking about, with the exception of an interesting presentation from HP Labs entitled Making DSpace Personal , which covers this ground very well, though not exactly in the senses we are considering.
A good morning’s work , originally uploaded by MrGluSniffer .
