The Evolution of Collaborative Innovation
For over a dozen years now the concept of collaborative innovation has been at the center of much of my work. The Internet, and all the social media platforms and applications in its wake have been one of the major enablers of collaborative innovation the world has ever known. Then there is my work with Linux, which started around this time ten years ago when we finalized the decision to launch a company-wide Linux initiative . They were surprised that It is a common theme in my talks and seminars, as well as in my blog. This is not surprising given the nature of the

Many organizations simply skip this question because they assume that they themselves don't have to be social (open and collaborative) to reap the rewards (cost savings, marketing ROI, effective reputation management, and search engine juice) they think they might get from social media.
But social Some have asked, Where does social media live? Is it marketing?

Reinventing the Book in the Age of the Web
As wikipedia has demonstrated, collaboration is easiest when documents are constructed using a modular architecture. Instead, publishers for years have built effective business processes to discover and promote the talents of those they discover in the wider world! (Reminder: But again, we've failed to update these processes for the 21st century. There's a lot of excitement about ebooks these days, and rightly so. While Amazon doesn't release sales figures for the Kindle, there's no question that it represents a turning point in the public perception of ebook devices.

Don't Use Smart Technologies to Do Dumb Things
I wonder if anybody in the decision-making process posed the question, "Yes, the sound masking technology will help squelch rumors, but shouldn't we focus our energies on actually helping our employees manage their fears about plant closings, project cancellations, and job losses?"
Unfortunately, our lapses in techno-judgment extend beyond how we use our personal "productivity" tools - they also are manifested in the systems that we select to run our company's core business processes. Technology can help us do almost anything - for better and worse. In considering

Product Development 2.0
For now, I'm calling this online business trend "Product Development 2.0" It's an informal term I'm applying to something that online startups and traditional businesses both are increasingly doing: leveraging of mass user contributions, providing open architectures for others to build on as they like, and even handing control over key product decisions directly to users. The reasoning behind doing this is simple: Satisfied customers have always been essential While the window on using the "2.0" quot; suffix is probably closing, I thought it would
