Should Educators Embrace the Fact That They Are Biased?
One of Chris Pirillo’s latest blog entries, [link] , caught my attention as I was nosing through Facebook this morning. For example, say you go to a history class for the first day and your instructor states that they are heavily biased towards the left. One of the commentators (on the Facebook announcement) had said something about cloud education shouldn’t be biased. The problem with that is that it is impossible to make education unbiased.

Chris Pirillo’s “Pillars of Community”
At LeWeb in Paris (December 2009) Chris Pirillo articulated some underlying principles for creating true (virtual) community. Matt Buckland [1] recorded Chris’ points in text form. Chris started by saying “I don’t have an agenda; I don’t have an announcement…” referring, of course, to the number of companies that had been making announcements on the stage. I’m m going to make some comments on them now.

Monitoring Attempted Malware and Spyware Installation
Chris Pirillo is offering a software program that efficiently monitors attempted installation of malware and spyware onto the computer. For example, PC WOrld has rated this program one of the ‘Best Products of 2007?. Chris touches upon some of them, in the discounted offer to his reader. The program, WinPatrol, offers constant surveillance of computer system and alerts when there are any changes. Some of these changes may be legitimate and the computer owner may want to allow the changes.

Malware Writers Wants Your Computer to Operate Efficiently
Another example is the blue screen appearing and indicating that the computer had crashed - and most likely the current work has disappeared too. Catherine Forsythe
*** Chris Pirillo has an excellent saving on the Sunbelt VIPRE AntiVirus and AntiSpyware program . There used to be telltale signs when the computer had been infected with malware. The computer might slow down to the point where it would take minutes to load programs and pages on the internet.

Social Media and the Echo Chamber
Twitter is another example of how social sites can have unintended problems that can ruin the experience for new users. I recently saw a tweet from Chris Pirillo in which he claimed that 20,000 of his followers did not really count because they were all internet or social media experts. With the rise of social media and social networking sites we have come to see some problems that the creators of the sites may not have been able to predict. Some of these problems are so big as to hurt the sites and make them less usable by large groups of users.
