The Facebook Imperative Cannot Be Stopped
m energized by the excitement I see for a new generation of collaboration software in the enterprise to replace antiquated Microsoft Sharepoint servers and IBM’s Lotus Notes. Microsoft and IBM have maintained the status quo on enterprise collaboration software too long, and it’s time for a change.
Still, I’m astounded that more enterprises haven’t figured out how to tap into the real collaborative power Editor’s note : This guest post is written by Marc Benioff , chairman and CEO of salesforce.com . In it, he responds to critics of his last guest post arguing that

"Learning in3D" Karl Kapp and Tony O'Driscoll
Learning in 3D: Adding a New Dimension to Enterprise Learning and Collaboration First an apology - I was supposed to write this review weeks ago and seriously dropped the ball. Think about e-learning for a minute. Tony and Karl assert: "Trainers appear to be wrapped up in some strange form of unconscious collusion wherein their dogged adherence to the classroom paradigm That in no way should take away from the fact that I think this is actually a very important book. A framework for social learning in the enterprise
framework for social learning in the enterprise
The social learning revolution has only just begun. Corporations that understand the value of knowledge sharing, teamwork, informal learning and joint problem solving are investing heavily in collaboration technology and are reaping the early rewards.

Geeks Invade Government With Audacious Goals
And this flies in the face of ideas about using technology to make government more efficient, mainly because the purpose and organization of government is quite different from that of business.
Nevertheless, more and more people from the private sector are interested in playing a role in government, thanks in no small part to the excitement surrounding the Obama election and inauguration, in which social media technologies and information sharing were showcased at their best - massive fundraising from many small donors, empowering people to self-organize locally, and direct public

The Cloud and Collaboration
Hope can emerge from new collaborative models based on a new paradigm; science and art will act gracefully to match human nature, and to shape the future of humanity. (80+1, It expresses the idea that the cloud enables us to work together, to collaborate, to forge a new consensus. The cloud, in other words, reinforces the ways with which we have attempted hitherto to organize ourselves. Paper written as a contribution to the Ars Electronica symposium on Cloud Intelligence . Let's take as a starting point the discussion of 'cloud intelligence' on the conference website:

Seeing Social Capital Work
She is in such a different part of our organization’s work, in fact, that I probably would not have been on her radar screen normally, except that we have spent a few hours together recently co-designing a road-mapping workshop for an important external partner. What we have noticed is that when people from radically different “communities” start to understand our interests and learning goals, then they can also help bring us into contact with these new ideas and practices, cross-fertilize our learning, and make it an ongoing, continual process and much more refined than our own google-like

Learning at All Levels: Boss Swap
He wanted to create an experiential learning opportunity for himself, the head of the business for nearly 20 years, so he organized a "Boss swap" with a friend in another company. For three days, he swapped roles with another CEO from a similar-sized, but non-competing business, to see what he could learn. Both in similar roles, they were able to help each other explore internal decisions I heard a great idea yesterday from the founder/owner of an innovative Dutch technology firm. He said that he found the experience fascinating.

Welcome to La Reunion
It strikes me as particularly fitting that the organizers chose Ile La Reunion ( reunion is actually "meeting" in French) for a big conference that is being held this week on the topic of the European Overseas Territory islands and climate change adaptation. As a result, this week might serve as a not-so-dry run for our upcoming Congress in October and produce some good learning for the most process aware. This beautiful volcanic island in the middle of the Indian Ocean is as far away from Brussels as you can get (at least contextually if not geographically-it is delightful to see the Brussels-based diplomatic crew in flipflops).

Don't Be Afraid of Fun in Institutional Learning
The title of the next Chief Learning Officer Webinar I've signed up for is called, “Corporate Learning in 2010: Social, Mobile, Collaborative, Engaging and Fun.” I was interested to find an example of this - of how informal learning at the organizational level can be just that – here near Geneva last week. I had lunch at WWF International in Gland, Switzerland, last Friday where they were just completing a Learning Week that featured five packed days of learning exchange from “How to take a good photograph” to hot topics like the Water Footprint on which WWF is working.

Social Learning Designer
Out of the conversation in Learn Trends around making informal learning concrete, Cammy Bean asked: Cammy Bean: So is there a market for Social Media Instructional Designing Consultants? Jane Hart suggested that we use the term Social Learning Designer to describe the role. Be it as an individual or as a function in an organization, we need to define what the whole business But what was fantastic is how well this crystallized the central question in my mind. Using a common marketing template, I thought it would be a great exercise to have people define our: Buyers

Tool Set 2009
I thought I'd kick off this year by posting a series of posts on topics related to tools and methods for work and learning. I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? But I'm worried, because while I just got through writing about my concern in Using SharePoint that learning organizations seemed to be making the same mistake of Not Preparing Workers What should be in your tool set? What are the most important methods to adopt in addition to the tools? Should

Metalearning
I just got through reading Jay's post and article (with Clark Quinn) around Become a chief meta-learning officer – one of the hot list items from two weeks ago. CLOs will neither prosper nor even survive if they fail to take responsibility for the overall learning process within their organizations. … Your charter as Chief Meta-Learning Officer is to optimize learning throughout the organization, not just in the pockets that once belonged to HR. It's a great article, definitely worth a read. It discusses the needed transition in focus of

U.S. Navy CIO: Social Media Should Be Part of Military IT Standard
Navy CIO Rob Carey wrote that social media is a resource for the American military that should be used to build trust and collaborate, both within and outside the organization.
Beyond risk management, Carey said, "Social media has a powerful collaboration engine associated with it."
Generally, military organizations have the options to reach out directly to large IT companies In a blog post this week, U.S. In attempts to balance communication, transparency, and operational security, the military has encountered both practical obstacles and general criticism.
