Wireless Technology: The Birds and the Bees ... and 4G
Just when consumers thought they had their 3G wireless gadgets all figured out, it's now time to start getting a grip on the fourth generation of wireless technology -- which will be much faster and far more disruptive than anything we have experienced before, according to Scott Snyder in his recent Wharton School Publishing book titled, The New World of Wireless: How to Compete in the 4G Revolution. In an interview with Knowledge@Wharton, Snyder, who is president and COO of consulting firm Decision Strategies International, predicts 4G will revolutionize the way we work and play by creating "one giant wireless ecosystem" that buzzes with innovation.

Decisions, decisions. Business decisions.
Incoming workers are more demanding than previous generations. The incoming generation of knowledge workers demand opportunities to learn through their work; otherwise, they will pick up and go elsewhere.
Executives realize that competing successfully in business requires teams of inspired employees – mentally equipped to make sound decisions on the fly; able to execute good ideas in a snap; and proactive when it comes to taking initiatives and bringing innovation.

Building Modern Web Apps? Better Have A Deep Competency in Web 2.0, Open APIs, Widgets, Social Apps, and Much More
The Web competency bar is climbing fast. To drive the right decisions in what they do product designers, marketing teams, software architects, developers, strategy officers, and other key roles in today's generation of online businesses need to have a solid handle on an extensive array of Web topics. This ranges from appreciating why plain old HTTP is so good at underpinning the Web to more sophisticated topics like modern application architecture, the latest in online user experiences, next generation computing models (grid/cloud/utility/SaaS/PaaS), The Web has an interesting property that those building Web applications and online businesses usually encounter soon after they first launch: It has its own unique and unforgiving rules for success and failure.

Compete: Facebook US Traffic Nearing Google, Yahoo
Web analytics firm Compete has released its data for the month of May, and as Justin Smith over at InsideFacebook has already pointed out , US traffic to Facebook.com has increased by nearly 8% to 82.9 million unique visitors last month, with Facebook Connect sites generating an additional 65 million uniques. That means that, according to Compete, a total of 113 million interacted with the Facebook service. The data also shows MySpace is ( still ) steadily decreasing compared to the beginning of the year, while Twitter growth seems to have flattened all of the sudden.

Observations from a Student Leadership Summit
The members of the crucible generation, as Warren Bennis calls them , really do have a more collaborative and less competitive orientation then we ever did. The most telling moment was the Ugli Orange Exercise : In essence, two competing pharmaceutical companies want the 4,000 Ugli Oranges right now. The older generation has a significant contribution to make--in mentoring. Jim Collins , the dinner speaker on Last week I had the opportunity to participate in the Student Leadership Summit , the inaugural event of the Frances Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement , at the University of Pittsburgh.

Global Generations: Focus on India
I'm often asked if generations share common characteristics around the globe. The answer: to some extent, particularly among younger generations whose members were exposed to many of the same events through cable television and the Internet. But among older generations, the shared elements are much less significant and the national characteristics of the generations become increasingly unique.
By definition, a generation is a group a people who, based on their age, share not only a chronological location in history but also the experiences that accompany it .

Jason Calacanis Punches Comscore In The Face. Comscore Punches Back. Fred Wilson Drags Us Into It. $SCOR
We chose not to have a business model based on selling advertising, because we do not want to compete with our clients who make a living selling advertising, and who need a neutral third party to provide audience data that is free from conflicts of interest.
Alexa, Compete and Hitwise are seriously flawed (I may dive into this more in a future post). Jason Calacanis , our partner over the years on the TechCrunch50 conference, wrote quite a rant yesterday about analytics company Comscore. His argument: that Comscore has vastly undercounted traffic and visitors over the years, and

The iGoogle Meme Generator
Plus, it's hard for us to see how a widget that is competing for screen real-estate with a stock ticker and a twitter client will take down a community site like Digg.
There are thousands of Google gadgets you can add to your iGoogle pages, from email checkers, games, even (wow, over 70 ) Twitter clients. The framework for these gadgets is flexible, allowing most of them to work not only in iGoogle but also on your PC using Google Desktop and in Gmail as a labs plugin.

Moving from One to Many - LMS Products are Two Generations Behind
I ran across an article by Bob Mosher in CLO entitled: Moving from One to Many that discusses the disconnect of what LMS products are focusing on "competency mapping and effective resource management" vs. what Bob sees as the overall industry trend - "industry shifting its overall training focus away from skills acquisition to an overall strategy of project-based and outcome-driven learning." Bob is pretty wired into both the LMS world and hears what people are talking about at conferences and I've heard the same things, so I don't disagree that he's hearing this stuff, and I quite agree
