Those Facebook QR Codes Are Part Of Their Location Plans
Facebook is expected to unveil its location plans at its f8 conference in late April.
Recently, the social network has been testing out pulling in data from both of those networks , rather than trying to build its own location network from scratch.
A few days ago, we noted that Facebook was testing putting links to QR codes on their main profile pages. Now we know why.

8 Ways to Better Understand the Internet of Things
The world's second Internet of Things Conference is scheduled to take place at the end of November in Tokyo. Conference planners have put together a list of suggested topics for papers . We've also written about ThingD, which is creating a registry of things, as well as REZZ.IT, which is building a business based on the idea that "things have a network and their own audience."
'Communication The deadline for papers was just extended to June 1 - which gave us an idea. We took that list and then rounded up our ongoing reporting and analysis for each of the eight topics

LoKast : The Disposable Social Network
That's what Lokast , the self-described "disposable" social network lets you do - carry your throw-away lifestyle over into the digital world.
Now, the thing is, we can't see a lot of people using this outside of big, hi-tech cities or conferences. Here's an idea for you: instead of slowly amassing followers, like on Twitter, or carefully culling your friends list over time on Facebook, making sure everyone is in their appropriate list and category, collect and dispose of friends like you ask for the time or a spare cigarette on a busy city street.

Vint Cerf: Despite Its Age, The Internet is Still Filled with Problems
Speaking at the SMX Conference in Santa Clara, Cerf discussed his concerns about the current state of the Internet and gave us a glimpse into his hopes for its future.
Analogous to the pre-Internet period when Cerf along with Bob Kahn were with finding a way of connecting the ARPANET to other independent networks, Cerf points out that today, cloud computing brings similar challenges. "You Tags: Vint Cerf , Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google and widely recognized as one of the "Fathers of the Internet" last week said that the issues facing the Internet today are as complex as they were pre-Internet.

The State of the Market in Semantic Technologies
Network mining
Tags: Conference Tom Tague from Thomson Reuters' OpenCalais team did a keynote speech today at SemTech in San Jose. His presentation was a wonderful wrapup of current semantic technology trends, and what we can expect over the next few years.
To open, he said that where we are now in the evolution of the Web is content rich, but information poor - plus "experientially deficient".

eLearning Conferences
Once again, Clayton Wright has been nice enough to compile an incredible list of conferences focused on use of technology in learning. Please note that events, dates, titles, and locations may change; thus, check the specific conference website . No liability is assumed for any errors that may have been introduced inadvertently during the assembly of this selected conference list. Clayton publishes this as a Word document but does not publish it as a web page. He has generously allowed me to republish here.

Three Ways to Make Conferences Better
The meetings and conference business has taken hits from the economy and Joe Biden telling everyone he wants his family to stay off airplanes. So this is a good time to take a moment to consider the conference business in general. Following are my three radical suggestions for improving meetings and conferences.
But, much like the overall economy, the business is slowly turning around, or at least slowing its decline. What could it do better when it comes roaring back in 2010?

The Art and Science of the Retweet with Dan Zarrella
He also talked about the value of Twitter as compared to other social networks in terms of conversion.
Tags: Conference At Social Media Camp 2009, Dan Zarrella of HubSpot gave a well-attended presentation about the etiquette and very real-world value of retweets. Although every power user's ego heart swells with pride with each of these 140-character validations he receives, the small- and medium-sized business owners using Twitter for marketing have a much more tangible interest at stake.

6 Networking Mistakes And How to Avoid Them
If you were my coaching client, I would simply say: network, network, network.
And yet among my clients, networking is often an underdeveloped skill. His role is to build the business in Europe, so he has to make industry contacts, speak at conferences and look for new client relationships. If you've been laid off in recent months, you're in excellent company. Plenty of qualified and experienced managers are now having to develop strategies to find their next job .

Conference Sponsorship: Worth It?
Last year, we attended five conferences. As we plan this year's budget, we are asking the hard questions about whether sponsoring conferences is really worth it.
We all know the kinds of conferences I'm talking about. They include SalesForce's DreamForce , Web 2.0 , Enterprise 2.0 , user conferences, etc. This is my favorite time of the year: budget time. At my company we look at all the wonderful ways to spend money on communicating with prospects and customers.

Tweets from the Field: 140 Characters Conference
While the Kodak Theater in Hollywood typically plays host to actual celebrities at the annual Academy Awards, last week's 140 Characters Conference in Hollywood brought together a different set of notable names: the Twitterati. Conference founder Jeff Pulver ( @jeffpulver ) summed it up:
And in this crowd, you didn't have to be George Clooney Jeff Pulver's first event in a series taking place around the world drew together entertainment folks, journalists, poker players and even police chiefs, all talking about how they use Twitter to spread information, market themselves and connect with a new audience.

Better Conferences - Response Needed
believe we can build better conferences. And, I need you to help by doing one or more of the following: provide a response to the poll below (won't show in an RSS feed - sorry) provide suggestions for what you'd like to see in future conferences (add comment). If you don't vote, then we'll assume you either will never go to a conference or think that every conference is just great as it is. I'm pretty sure it's not just me... I
