Decisions, decisions. Business decisions.
don’t mean to insult your intelligence, so permit me to explain that I didn’t understand the difference between profit and revenue until I took a correspondence course in accounting five years after graduating from college. Of course there’s no guarantee that the fab plant wouldn’t be another white elephant when it comes on stream in three years. Five years MAKING BUSINESS DECISIONS: THE HEART AND THE HEAD
Jay Cross examines decision making on learning at work, and gives the lie to some myths about the use of business metrics.

ReadWriteWeb Events Guide, 13 March 2010
An incubator of cutting-edge technologies, the SXSW Interactive Festival offers five days of captivating keynote presentations, panel sessions, book readings, Salons and Core Conversations that provide hands-on training as well as big-picture analysis. Over the course of the day, you'll hear from 35 speakers from companies like Intel, Ford, Comcast, Nike and many more, as well as keynote Peter Shankman. It's SXSW weekend so you may be pretty burnt out on conferences - or just sick and tired of hearing about them - but if you're in New York City this week, don't miss what's sure to be a profound and fascinating conversation between Chinese digital activist and artist Ai Weiwei, Twitter co-founder and chairman Jack Dorsey, and ReadWriteWeb's Richard MacManus.

The New Paradigm of Advantage
Apple's advantage is, of course, radically creative: built on creating insanely great stuff that turns entire industries upside down. Over two decades, Microsoft has honed its extractive edge, coming up with cleverer and cleverer ways to extract profits from customers and suppliers. Microsoft has achieved an extractive advantage — but what Microsoft hasn't done is allocate software production and consumption more efficiently, or, of course, Here's something you might not know. There's enough food in the world to feed pretty much everyone .

YC-Funded Directed Edge Sees A Post-Search Web Where Recommendations Rule
That quote, by Greg Linden, the man behind Amazon’s recommendation system, is the dogma of Directed Edge , a new Y Combinator -backed startup in the recommendation space. Amazon, of course does product comparisons, but there’s no reason recommendations shouldn’t be a part of news consumption, music consumption, social networking, basically everything we do on the web. And while “ Whoever manages to change the nature of content display on the Web from a search problem to a recommender problem will reap tremendous rewards. ” 8221;

ZEMOS98: Losing my edge never felt so good…
Yeah, I’m losing my edge.
I’m 8217;m losing my edge.
The Watching these gifted, passionate and relentlessly professional young folks do their thing, I couldn’t get that LCD Soundsystem song out of my head (which presumes I ever had edge, but let’s not think about that right now):
But I’m losing my edge

The Finance 2.0 Manifesto
Edge funds. An edge fund is the opposite of a hedge fund. Where hedge funds are opaque, edge funds are transparent. Where hedge funds are closed, edge funds are open. Where hedge funds are run for near-term gains, edge funds are in it for the long run. Dear G20 ,
It's confusing.

Update from WorldWideWayne’s World
Greetings one and all in the land of Off Course; On Target. (OCOT Evidence to the contrary, I have not literally sailed off the edge of the earth, though figuratively I’ve come close to it. In this post I’ll do my best to summarize what’s been happening for the past few months and what’s coming up in the future. I therefore realized, that much as in the way I originally came up with the notion Off Course - On Target upon learning how the Apollo space missions were similarly always weaving back and forth OCOT for short) After several months of deafening silence, I’m delighted to let you know, and warn you that I’m back.

The High Priests of IT — And the Heretics
Good thing, too, of course. Today, every enterprise of reasonable size uses general-purpose, Internet-connected computers under the individual control of their operators, because the risks associated with allowing employees the increased latitude that comes with these machines is more than offset by the efficiency gains made by the flexibility and power at the edge.
And yet, the spiritual descendants of the brave heretics who risked everything to compute at the edge have now become the priesthood . Though I've done time in corporate IT — and have even born the CIO title more than once — I've always had more sympathy for the firewall-breaking, virus-toting, data-leaking users than I have for the responsible and sober IT departments that struggle every day to keep the systems running while the users set out to dismantle it.

Reinventing the Book in the Age of the Web
And of course, there's Stanza, an open ebook platform for the iPhone, which has been downloaded more than a million times (and now has been bought by Amazon .)
But course, having the amazing Sarah Milstein as a co-author really helped. The Hacks books provide a collection of tips, tricks, and documentation on the problem-solving approaches of cutting edge users.
Of There's a lot of excitement about ebooks these days, and rightly so. While Amazon doesn't release sales figures for the Kindle, there's no question that it represents a turning point in the public perception

A Labor Day Manifesto for a New World
Of course, these individuals have been around since the beginning of human history and played a more prominent role in some eras than in others. They tend to gather on the edges where unmet needs intersect with unexploited capabilities. 0160; Edges are fertile seedbeds for innovation. We speak on behalf of the creatives who are passionate about their work. They experience deep frustration today with the institutional barriers that have been put in their way as they seek to more fully achieve their full potential.
