Social Media Goes Mainstream
At least for video, social media is not an edge case and is they dominant model overall. Here is my take, culling the capabilities and features of the most popular social media sites as well as the consensus of leading thinkiners in this space such as Stowe Boyd, Tina Sharkey, and others. Defining Social Media: Some Ground Rules (as we understand them circa January 2007) Communication in the form of conversation, not monologue . Encouraging conversations on the vast While some will dispute what mainstream is defined as exactly -- with my own personal favorite being when my grandparents and their grandchildren both are doing whatever is under discussion -- the rise of consumer-powered media platforms has all the hallmarks of being something that's not only here to stay, but something that's increasingly pushing everything else off the stage.
